OVERDOSE:
With an overdose of the drug Imodium may occur CNS depression (incoordination, cramps, drowsiness, stupor, respiratory depression, muscle hypertonicity), urinary retention, and symptom characteristic for intestinal obstruction.
Loperamide hydrochloride tablets
Treatment of an overdose. If there are symptoms of the overdose of Imodium, naloxone may be used as an antidote. Due to the fact that the duration of action of the drug Imodium more than naloxone may require repeated administration of naloxone. In case of overdose also it is symptomatic therapy. For early detection of possible CNS depression patient should be under medical observation for 48 hours.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Possible side reactions which may occur with use of Imodium include headache, bloating, constipation, nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, flatulence, abdominal pain, vomiting, and rash.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Imodium is not used in individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, fructose intolerance, hepatic dysfunction, sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, in children younger than six years.
Loperamide hydrochloride tablets
Imodium is not used for the primary treatment of acute ulcerative colitis, acute amoebic dysentery, enterocolitis, bacterial etiology. Imodium is also not used for initial treatment of severe diarrhea accompanied by dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Imodium does not apply in cases where it is necessary to avoid the oppression of peristalsis due to the presence of the risk of occurrence of ileus, toxic megacolon, and other serious complications.
